A Wind Power proposal for Santiago de Chile

Flais final paper - wind installationFor some time now in Chile we have begun to have problems with sustainable development  and energy, especially in the area of how to have access to power supplies without damaging our environment. It is for this reason that a solution to this shortage of energy in an environmentally friendly manner is an important point in which we must be careful.

This paper aims to provide a basic analysis of a type of sustainable energy which tries to damage the least possible environment and to solve the problem of energy supply in the city of Santiago de Chile.

Santiago de Chile has today; 6 million of inhabitants who together have an average monthly consumption of electricity. In a Chilean household of four we are talking about that in a year a consumption of 2,640 Kw/h.

If every house in Santiago was composed of 4 people and had an approximate average consumption per month of 220Kw/h we would be talking about 1.5 million houses would result in 330 million Kw/h.

It is known that a wind turbine called E-126 of the Enercon Company in Germany; you can get 6 megawatts (MW) per year, enough energy to meet the needs of 5,000 homes. This is a giant mill 138 meters in height and 126 in diameter between blades.

It is known that in countries such as Germany and Spain have with this type of energy; today Spain is the 2 world producer of this type of energy with close to 500 wind farms.

Santiago de Chile is a city surrounded by mountains which anyone would say that is a disadvantage when trying to start a wind farm, but on the contrary between the mountains are generated air currents which flow faster and more cash which is transformed into more electricity, the installation of these towers would be complex but the constant wind throughout the year would fulfill the need for supplies of renewable energy without damage to the ecosystem with both destruction and generating cause chessboard pattern of other goods as important as is the water ( hydroelectric plants that today supplying to Santiago)

Today Chile is located on the 3 place among the countries that use this type Energy in all of South America, with its main project called “wind park of Monte Redondo” where they are installed 19 wind turbines that are able to feed 60 thousand households in the northern zone, city Los Vilos, succeeding in reducing in 70 thousand tones of CO2 in a year.

With this it is clear that Chile may change its form of feed and you can move to a greener tomorrow. This is why the project is composed with install about 40 of these turbines (or more modern) which will meet at least 20% of all the Santiago community in large part by reducing the use of conventional energy and helping the ecology
