While we are getting ready for our intensive three-day graduate ISG seminar in June — on what has to be THE greatest challenge of the international agenda of this century — let me invite you to see how my colleagues Professor Jeffery Sachs handles some of this in his much longer three week introductory course at Columbia University,
This course, “Introduction to Sustainable Development” is intended to give an understanding of the key challenges and pathways to sustainable development – that is, economic development that is also socially inclusive and environmentally sustainable.
Of course we will have to dip in quickly here and there, but I think you will find it useful to do the following:
- Sign into the course at https://www.coursera.org/learn/sustainabledevelopment1
- Quickly compete your profile
- On left menu under All course content: Lesson 1 of 4: call up 11 minute video “Intro to Sustainable development”
- Then scroll down the left menu to Suggested Reading, and from there call up the comprehensive 26 page Chapter , “What is Sustainable Development?”
I would suggest that you print out this chapter and as you read mark up your copy with questions and comments. These we can review in the first working session, to get us off to a compact running start.
